Neurodegeneration

This project is focused on the mechanisms of early processes of cell death in experimental models of spinal cord injury and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

By employing molecular biology, confocal microscopy, cell biology and electrophysiology, the project investigates how and why neurons and glia die and the functional consequences of their disappearance on network operation. The subjects of neurorepair, pharmacological neuroprotection and efficiency of surviving cells are currently studied. This research activity is currently supported by a grant from the Friuli Venezia Region Government (SPINAL project).
